it has taken me 10 years, since i first met my korean parents, to fully understand why they abandoned me. south korea seems so modern and yet remains a society where the collective suffocates the individual, where “there are a lot of eyes watching you”, where (uneducated low-class) women have no rights, where contraception is unknown and abortion forbidden.
